 Harris Park review

The atmosphere

We arrived at Harris Park on Wednesday, and I was immediately off put by it being a family campground with campsites being roughly 15-20 square feet each I thought it wasn’t going to be as fun; however, it was so quiet and peaceful the people were nice. We had a beautiful river that right by us no more loud farm animals. We arrived on a Wednesday, so the campsite was a little empty aside from us and few campers scattered all around the grounds. On Thursday we saw a few people staring at showing and by Friday the grounds were full as people were camping for the weekend. Despite how many people came by the campsite was still peaceful and fun.

Ideas

While I was here, I had a few personal comfort ideas. For example, I thought the atmosphere was so great but found myself craving a soda at times and was hopping to find a vending machine somewhere, id even pay a little extra because of the convenience, pay an extra dollar here or drive 40 minutes to the closest store. Another idea was public showers would have been nice as we would take showers all the way in Pendleton, which was fine but what if I woke up and was craving a shower, or maybe a late-night shower. Bathrooms were also a battle because I had made sure to be quick as they were one person bathrooms, and I had to hope whoever went before me was also timing himself.

Wildlife

Ugh absolutely stunning, I finally got to see some deer up close on this trip. The deer were so friendly, and there were no pesky prairie dogs plotting to steal all our food. We also got to see a bear cub a few miles away from camp, which is scary if you think about it too much, but it was also super cute to see.

Overall, I will miss Harris Park and will have to consider a stay if I’m ever in the area.

Day 1(PTBR begins)

 Day 1(end) We arrived at Heritage University at 10 am and started with a quick roll call of who was here. We signed some paperwork, did a survey on our basic knowledge of environmental science and microbiology along with why this field interests us. After that we went began to do our inventory for the trip, which went pretty well we had extra gear that came in handy later. we were all set to go until we found out one of our cars had battery issues (car b), so we got delayed a little. I used the time to read a little and enjoy the sun. Day 1 blog (Heritage University)

 Day 1.  leading up to this trip I packed everything I needed a week prior to leaving the house and even then, I ended up switching things in and out of my luggage. decided this was more important than that clothing wise, I made sure to pack some entertainment such as a book/manga for some me time, packed some uno cards and some Totoro poker cards so that I can play with some of my colleagues (and I was hoping to see who likes studio Ghibli off the cards I brought). I was up and ready to go by 8am as I did not want to be late and have the class waiting for me, so I kind of rushed my dad to bring me over and we made it just on time, but because of my rushing I forgot my laptop charger as i was using it just before I left 😭. luckily for me my brother-in-law was awesome enough to bring it to me while we were still doing inventory... it would've sucked not having it. Day 2 (visiting the Spokane fishery and playing in the dirt)

 Day 2. My morning stared at 5:30, I woke up earlier than our wake-up time to avoid being woken up and to take a morning shower, I didn't take a shower I was too tired. I was up and ready to go for the day, we had a quick breakfast and packed our lunches for the day. After lunches were set we all did our morning chores, mine were dishes. After camp was clean, we made way for the Spokane wildlife fishery. We arrived around 8 and did a quick lesson on the salmon life cycle. Along with the quick lesson we were shown a fun activity for the kids, we were making bracelets. I love making bead bracelets, it's something I do on my free time a lot, but I call them Kandi. We moved over to our station when the buses started arriving. Our activity was to teach the kids about the 7 stages of the salmon cycle (Eggs, alevin, fry, parr, smolt, marine adult, and spawning adult), while making a bracelet that shows the cycle.
